What’s On

Every weekday morning in term times Little Acorns Nursery 9.15 to 12.15 in the Main Hall with lunch clubs on Monday and Fridays.

Monday morning Painting Group in the upper room.

Monday afternoon Dementia Café held on the third Monday of each month 2.00 to 4.00pm in the Main Hall. Organised by Age UK.

On the second Monday of each month, Memories are Made of This singing group for those with early memory loss, dementia and their relatives or carers, run by a trained facilitator. 2.00pm to 4.00pm. No charge, but contributions accepted towards the running costs which are covered by New Barnet Quakers. Please register your interest at info@newbarnetquakers.org.uk .

Monday evening Forever Dance.

Wednesday afternoon Ways into Writing writing group monthly 1.00 to 4.00pm in the Upper room.

This is a long-running writing workshop run by Katherine Gallagher, poet and tutor. The workshop, (maximum of 8) is for critiquing members’ new writing (poetry & fiction) as well as exploring ideas about trends and opportunities. £14 per session. Saturday afternoon Poetry monthly 2.30 to 4.45pm in the Main Hall.

Barnet Poetry Appreciation Group. We meet on a regular basis to read and discuss published poetry. Sometimes we look at the work of an individual poet, and at other times there is a particular theme to the meeting and everyone brings a poem relating to it. Occasionally outside speakers are invited to the group – a recent one was the poet Lorraine Mariner. Also some members of the group have an in depth knowledge of certain poets – at our December meeting Michael gave a talk on Keats and his Circle.

The group meets on the second Saturday in each month from 2.30pm to 4.45pm, excluding July and August. The cost is £5 (or £6 when there is an outside guest speaker), to include tea and cakes.
Meetings have now resumed in person in the Meeting House. The next meetings are:

  • May 14th Bring a poem on HIGH SOCIETY to share (the previously advertised talk on Philip Larkin is postponed)
  • June 11th Fleur Adcock, published poet, will be joining us
